About

Kurt MacMillan is a writer and historian interested in the Holocaust, historical memory, and modern European and Latin American history. He has degrees in history from Rutgers University (BA) and the University of California, Irvine (MA, PhD). An expansive and versatile thinker, he has completed writing projects about history, memory, and identity and conducted archival research in Europe and Latin America. Prior to devoting himself to writing and secondary education, he held appointments at museums and universities and has taught a wide range of undergraduate courses.

His current book project, tentatively entitled, Close to Home: Local Iterations of Antisemitism and Holocaust Memory aims to provide high school students and undergraduates with a survey of critical issues in Holocaust studies by excavating discrete sites of antisemitism and Holocaust memory in Europe and the U.S. while tracing how the author arrived at them. Combining history, theory, memoir, and travelogue, the book is an accessible and arresting expansion of Holocaust engagement for students.
Kurt lives in New Jersey, where he enjoys the beach, the woods, daytrips to New York City, and spending time with family and friends.
